Arthur Sleeps

King Arthur sleeps on Avalon's shores
And a generation trembles behind closed doors
They're too beaten back to keep the cause
We've lost their future, we're losing yours

Our once great nation that ruled the waves
Became hateful to ships, turned shores to graves
The papers flutter, the radio raves
They remind us all to fear our slaves

Gwennan lies wrecked at dovers feet
And hungry children have nothing to eat
We never put them on the balance sheet
Because our way of work makes us into meat

Our hearts need his court of wonders back
But Gaiwain can't kiss if he fears attack
If he can't be different without getting a smack
If hate on the street remains a fact

I pray that old king keeps his rest,
His gaze daren't glimpse how we've regressed.
Our green land flushed grey, we let sewage infest
And it's not pleasant, I must suggest

At the Top

Standing proudly at the top
Stairs all climbed,
heads all chopped.
Lackies cowed and rivals shot
Gave the world as good as I got

Life got boring at the top
war got won,
firing stopped
Schemes all done, no more garrote
Can't take more when I've got the lot

Final glance while at the top
Little people,
spineless sops
Breaking into a final hop
Making marks that won't be forgot

Colston Dives

My memory is cast into the waves
Of a harbour wrought by serfs and slaves
No longer bound by rope and chain
The start of the end of my type's reign

They shout, they pull, they push, they heave
On the docks I bought with what I achieved
Shipping souls and coal, wine and wealth
Pouring a drink to my cities health

But not to those workers who died on the docks
Starved and withered, chained and locked
Thousands of bodies sent to their graves
Pulling my Bristol out of the waves

Do they not know how I had to fight?
With words and wit for what was right
A world where all good men are free
Except for those who belong to me

Some Will Tell You

Some will tell you that you're mad
They'll blame your mum, you'll blame your dad
Then they'll say you're their mistake
A single drop borne in a lake

Some will say you've got the gift
And then they'll get you got with grift
They'll take your money, take your time
And mark your soul with all their grime

Some will tell you that you're angry
Snapping out and staring blankly
Then they'll say it doesn't matter
You grow thin, your boss grows fatter

Some will say it's all a test
To filter out and find who's best
Then they'll say it's all god's plan
He decides who dies a man

Some will tell you "just relax"
While Powell sharpens up his axe
They'll scream out that heads will roll
While they're cutting up the dole

Some will say that it's all over
But I'd stand up and bellow "no, sir!"
You've still got a heart that beats
You'll still knock them off their feet
